Course description
In the course “Introduction to Stata,” participants will receive an introduction to the statistical software Stata by following lectures and completing exercises. Due to the introductory nature of the course, it is targeted at participants who have little or no prior knowledge of Stata. People who are already familiar with Stata but want to refresh their skills are also welcome in the course.
In the first part of the course, we will introduce Stata's interface and its syntax structure, including basic rules for writing clean and reproducible Stata code. Participants will have the opportunity to try out everything they learned in supplementary individual or group exercises.
In the course's second part, we introduce our example dataset, cover basic data management skills, learn descriptive commands, and visualize descriptive results. Thereby, participants will learn how to use and write do-files, which allow documenting all commands and are, therefore, a core part of any (reproducible) research project.
In the third part of the course, we will focus on bi- and multivariate statistical analyses. We will focus on how to implement regression analyses and how to interpret their outputs. Additionally, participants will learn how to export the output. (Please note that this is not an introduction to statistics; we focus on the implementations of the analyses in Stata.)
We will also review available help and support features to equip participants with the necessary knowledge to improve their skills and solve occurring problems by themselves.

Organizational structure of the course
The workshop will be structured around approximately a total of three hours of classroom instructions and three hours of hands-on exercises per day. The workshop will alternate between lectures and hands-on exercises. During the hands-on exercises, the lecturers will be available to the participants and support work on assignments.
Prerequisites
Software requirements
Participants need a laptop/desktop computer that enables them to access the internet and smoothly work with Stata. Participants will be provided with access to Stata licenses by GESIS but must install the software prior to the course on their own devices.
